Description
Peb's caricature/humorist artwork depicts U.S. Racing Hall of Fame trainer John M. Veitch, head trainer for Calumet Farm from 1976 until 1982, with jockey Jeffrey Fell and U.S. Racing Hall of Fame racehorse Alydar in the “Calumet” balloon en route to the Arlington Classic in 1978.
Alydar won the Flamingo Stakes, Florida Derby, Arlington Classic Stakes, Travers Stakes, and Whitney Handicap in 1978. This is the same year he placed second in all three Triple Crown Races—the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes.
