Description

The C.V. Whitney-bred and owned Tompion with trainer Robert Wheeler is captured arriving at the Blue Grass Airport for Keeneland’s 1960 Spring Meet as three unidentified men look on. Tompion was favored heading into the 1960 Kentucky Derby after his Blue Grass win, but he threw a shoe and finished fourth. After recovering from the resulting hoof injury, the colt later won the 1960 Travers and Malibu Stakes.
