Description
Conformation shot of the American Thoroughbred Exterminator.
Despite his critics’ focus on his appearance (earning Exterminator the various nicknames of ‘Old Bones’, 'Old Slim' and 'The Galloping Hatrack'), Exterminator appears on several top 100 horses of the 20th century lists.
Exterminator was foaled near Nicholasville, Kentucky, in 1915 and changed ownership several times over his seven-year (1917 - 1924) racing career during which he won the 1918 Kentucky Derby at 30-1, held a 50-17-17 record from 100 starts, and earned $252,996. 33 of those victories were in stakes races.
Exterminator was inducted into the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame in 1957.
