This conformation photograph of the American Thoroughbred and multiple graded stakes winner Shut Out was taken at Greentree Stable in August of 1956.
Shut Out was bred by Greentree Stable in Lexington, Kentucky, foaled in 1939, and trained by John Gaver, Sr. He won both the 1942 Kentucky Derby (Wayne D. Wright up) and the Belmont Stakes (Eddie Arcaro up), but lost the possibility of a Triple Crown title when Alsab claimed the Preakness that year. He retired with a career record of 16-6-4 from 40 starts and earnings of $317,507.
