This is a photographic portrait of jockey George Woolf. Woolf was the country's leading stakes-winning jockey between 1942 and 1944. He claimed nearly 100 major stakes races over the course of his career and is perhaps most often remembered for his victory on Seabiscuit in the 1938 match race against War Admiral.

Woolf, pictured here in front of a brick building, is looking directly at the camera. This photograph was taken at Belmont Park in September of 1944.
