Description
An account of the resource
Peb's artwork depicts racehorses Kelso (jockey Bill Shoemaker up), Carry Back, and Beau Purple before the 1962 Monmouth Handicap.
Beau Purple defeated Kelso in three of their four lifetime meetings. Although Carry Back had claimed the 1961 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, Kelso was named American Horse of the Year in 1961.
Carry Back won the 1962 Monmouth Handicap with jockey John L. Rotz up, conquering Kelso, the then two-time Horse of the Year.
