The Hawksworth Farm favorite did not disappoint in the Blue Grass. Ronnie Franklin piloted the colt to a definitive win just weeks before the pair claimed two of the three Triple Crown legs with their Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes victories.

U.S. Racing Hall of Famer Spectacular Bid (1979 American Champion Three-Year-Old Male Horse and 1980 American Horse of the Year) took the 1979 Meadowlands Cup. He was also the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner in 1979.
