Description
An account of the resource
This is a photographic portrait of jockey Ismael "Milo" Valenzuela.
He rose to prominence aboard Tim Tam in a near Triple Crown victory in 1958. Valenzuela and Tim Tam swept the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes but finished second in the Belmont Stakes after Tim Tam fractured a sesamoid bone near the finish line.
Valenzuela almost swept the Triple Crown again ten years later aboard Forward Pass. Although they claimed the 1968 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, the pair finished second in the Belmont Stakes.
Other notable mounts include Kelso.
Over his nearly 30-year career, Valenzuela won 2,545 races with purse earnings exceeding $20 million. He was inducted in the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame in 2008.
