The match race, often dubbed the 'Match of the Century,' drew roughly 40,000 spectators.
Seabiscuit (George Woolf up) bested War Admiral (Charles Kurtsinger up) by four lengths.

Branncastle Farm's Louis J. Schaefer-trained Challedon (Eddie Arcaro up) won the Pimlico Special in 1939. Challedon would win the Pimlico Special again in 1940, with George Woolf up.

Photography of horse sports
This is a photographic portrait of jockey George Woolf. Woolf was the country's leading stakes-winning jockey in both 1942 and 1944. He is perhaps most often remembered for his victory on Seabiscuit in the 1938 match race against War Admiral.
George Woolf was inducted in to the Hall of Fame in 1955.
