Hall of Fame jockey Eddie Arcaro aboard Shut Out after their victory in the 1942 Blue Grass Stakes. On the heels of his success in Keeneland’s Triple Crown prep race, Shut Out claimed the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes before securing another win in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga for Greentree Stable and trainer John M. Gaver Sr.

Ralph Neves at Pimlico

This is a photograph of jockey Ralph P. Neves in silks walking with two other men at Pimlico in 1940.
Neves, prominent West Coast rider and American Hall of Fame jockey, won 3,772 total races and 173 stakes races over the course of his long career. When he retired in mid-1963, Neves was one of eight jockeys in the history of the sport at that time with at least 3,000 wins.

James Stout at Jamaica

This photographic print features jockey James Stout at Jamaica Racetrack in April 1946.
Stout accumulated 2,056 wins over his career. After Stout rode Seabiscuit in the horse’s first race in January 1935 at Hialeah Park, trainer “Sunny Jim” Fitzsimmons bought his contract. Stout rode for Fitzsimmons for 11 years. Many of his notable wins were aboard Fitzsimmons’ horses.
Stout’s four American Classic race wins include the 1939 Kentucky Derby, and the 1936, 1938, and 1939 Belmont Stakes. He was inducted into the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame in 1968.

Gordon Glisson at Belmont Park

Glisson, born in South Carolina, was named the country's leading rider in 1949 with 270 winning mounts. Notable wins include 1949's Santa Anita Derby with Old Rockport and in 1955's Hollywood Gold Cup with mount Rejected.
He was awarded the first ever George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award in 1950.
