1960s
Keeneland celebrated the 25th anniversary of its founding in 1960. Throughout the decade, there were several major construction projects and updates for both racing and sales. In 1961, Keeneland introduced an alphanumeric message board in front of the infield tote board and became the first Thoroughbred racetrack in America to use the Visumatic Timer, which displayed fractions and final times for each race.
In 1962, Keeneland Association, Keeneland Race Course, and the Breeders' Sale Company were merged into a single company, the Keeneland Association, with separate auction, racing, and communications and public relations divisions.
The following year, Keeneland began a massive renovation project to connect the separate Grandstand and Clubhouse buildings. The California-based architectural firm of Arthur Froehlich & Associates, which had designed Hollywood Park racetrack and the renovations at Aqueduct racetrack, was awarded the project. In 1966, Keeneland began construction on a new Sales Pavilion, also designed by Arthur Froehlich & Associates, which opened in 1969.
