Description
Conformation photograph of the multiple stakes-winning Thoroughbred Olympia with groom taken in February of 1958.
Olympia (by Heliopolis out of Miss Dolphin) was foaled in 1946 and debuted to a successful two-year-old season, winning the Breeders’ Futurity, Primer, and Joliet Stakes (the Joliet Stakes he finished in a dead heat with Ky. Colonel) in 1948. Victories during his three-year-old season include the Flamingo, Wood Memorial, Withers, and Derby Trial Stakes.
Olympia retired to stud at Lexington, Kentucky’s Danada Farm, and he would later become a prominent sire for Fred Hooper’s breeding operations based in Ocala, Florida.
Olympia, buried at Hooper Farm, was the top North American broodmare sire in 1974.
