Broomstick was foaled at McGrathiana Stud Farm in 1901. Sired by Ben Brush out of Elf, Broomstick had three successful racing seasons (1903 to 1905) before being retired to a stud career during which he topped the North American sire list for three consecutive years (1913 to 1915). &#13;

Notable progeny include Whisk Broom II and Regret, who in 1915, became the first filly to win the Kentucky Derby.</text>
