This photographic portrait features jockey Benny Marinelli.
Benny Marinelli began his riding career in 1920 at East Coast tracks. He spent the 1921 winter meet season at the Agua Caliente Racetrack in Tijuana, Mexico before returning to the U.S. and finishing third in the country by wins in 1921.
Marinelli won the Preakness Stakes in 1923 aboard Vigil. He won the Travers Stakes on Wilderness and placed third in the Kentucky Derby on Vigil that same year.
