Heavily favored Graustark, Braulio Baeza up, parading to post in the 1966 Blue Grass Stakes. Bill Shoemaker rode Abe’s Hope to win by a nose on a muddy track after Graustark sustained a career-ending injury following his six-length lead in the backstretch. Graustark was syndicated for a record $2.4 million, standing at Darby Dan Farm for a long and influential breeding career.
