Description

Forward Pass training at Keeneland in April 1968.

Campaigned by Calumet Farm to impressive Triple Crown prep race victories, including the 1968 Everglades Stakes and Florida Derby, Forward Pass dominated the Blue Grass Stakes field, winning by five lengths under Hall of Fame jockey Ismael Valenzuela.

Trained by Henry Forrest, Forward Pass was the betting favorite for the 1968 Kentucky Derby. When the winner Dancer’s Image was disqualified after a post-race drug test, second-place Forward Pass was named Derby winner.

The future Co-champion 3-Year-Old Colt went on to claim the 1968 Preakness Stakes in a rematch with Dancer’s Image. Forward Pass won the second leg of the U.S. Triple Crown by six lengths.
