Photograph of the American Thoroughbred Seabiscuit with jockey John M. ‘Red’ Pollard up. Seabiscuit is held by his trainer, Tom Smith, following his Yonkers Handicap win at the Empire City Race Track in July of 1937.

Seabiscuit, sired by Hard Tack out of Swing On, was foaled in 1933. His career began slowly, but he began to dominate the racing world during his four-year-old year – setting multiple records and claiming several stakes wins.

Seabiscuit was named U.S. Champion Handicap Male in 1937 and 1938 and U.S. Horse of the Year in 1938. He was inducted in the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame in 1958.
