Description

Conformation shot of the Thoroughbred Grey Dawn with groom taken in April of 1967.

Grey Dawn was bred, foaled (1960), and raced in France by Gertrude Widener who maintained racing stables in both New York and France.

Grey Dawn claimed the French Champion Two-Year-Old Colt title and was the only horse to have ever bested Sea-Bird before being sent to race in the U.S. in 1966.

Registered as Grey Dawn II for his American racing career, he was trained by Horatio Luro and raced with moderate success before being retired to stud at Domino Stud Farm in Lexington, Kentucky.

Grey Dawn successfully sired more 73 stakes winners and was the broodmare sire of more than 125 stakes winners – earning him the rank of North American Leading Broodmare Sire in 1990.
